The Diccionario de Historia Cultural de la Iglesia en América Latina is the ongoing result of an initiative of the Pontifical Council for Culture. The Dicastery had gathered together representatives of episcopal conferences of Latin America in 2006 and it was that meeting which gave birth to the idea of an organised, systematic collection of short essays and articles by many writers converging on the common theme: What role has the Church played in bringing the Latin American Continent to its current situation?
